PERSONALITY The Holy Grail deemed that Merlin was worthy of drinking from the chalice. Whether or not the chalice was actually sent from the gods, it showed that he was a pure man. His intentions have always been true, and he always wants to help others with his gift. He has the most powerful magic of all beings. He has been able to create a sentient force that has taken place in the form of an Author, where a human without magic is able to tell future events and stories of what has happened in the realms. Merlin's weakness is evil. He has lost much to it, and if he commits an evil deed, his heart will darken quickly due to the Holy Grail's magic. The Holy Grail is pure, and since it saw him as someone who had the best intentions, he cannot use his magic for evil things or darkness will take over his soul. He is very wise and is able to influence others easily. Merlin hates evil, and can sometimes be afraid of it, even though that he knows that good always wins, no matter the circumstance. Merlin was also once tethered to Excalibur, but was freed of it once he was killed. Merlin just wants to be able to help a good cause. He isn't completely certain yet if it were a good idea to allow Hook to escape the Underworld. Hook, being the Dark One, murdered Merlin. HISTORY Merlin had started his life pretty early. When he was a young boy, he wanted to help out as many people as he possibly could, using kindness as a viable way to solve situations. All he wanted to do was help an effort. But, when he was in his late teens, he was drafted into the militia. This was something that he especially hated, as he only wanted to be kind, benevolent. A few weeks after being in the militia, there was an army of enemy men approaching. Merlin would either have to kill, or be killed by the opposing army. He saw it as an opportunity to escape the army and to find shelter somewhere where he could help others. A friend of Merlin's who he met in the army insisted on joining him. Adda, his companion, ran with Merlin far away from the warzone. However, they ended up in the middle of the desert, constantly seeing mirages and false locations. When Adda finally collapsed, Merlin saw a shining in the distance. There was something inside Merlin that told him that the glimmer wasn't just a mirage, that it was something far greater. He picked up his friend and they both ran to see what it was. It ended up being a chalice filled with water. Adda believed it was a gift from the gods, but Merlin believed that they weren't worth the Gods' notice. Adda tried picking up from the cup, but turned to dust almost immediately. However, when Merlin tried drinking from the cup, it allowed him to. He drunk the entire contents of the chalice. When sitting down, he put his hand on the ground and noticed that the entire area around him began to turn into a giant forest, instead of the previous bleak desert. This made Merlin aware that this chalice was the Holy Grail...and that the Holy Grail had given him magic. He'd soon find out that he could literally tell the future. He knew what was happening around every corner. And soon, he found out that he was immortal. For 500 years, he went around places to selflessly use his magic for other people's benefit. He healed wounded soldiers, saved people from harm's way. He did everything in his power to protect the balance in the world. Merlin had also picked up an Apprentice named Mickey, who was a very nice student. However, when referring to him, he simply called him "Apprentice". The apprentice learned magic and the positive ways of life. He had also given him multiple items to keep safe for him, along with tasking him the job of finding the next Author. After 500 years, a unique woman named Nimue came in from a town called Oxleigh, who had escaped an attack by Vortigan, being the sole survivor. She had brought some middlemist flowers to plant. She would come back in the spring, but Merlin had told her that she didn't have to wait that long. He instantly grew the flowers for her. And that is when their love was in bloom. But once Merlin wanted to propose, he had a second thought. If he proposed, he'd live all of Nimue's life, but he didn't want to do that. He wanted to live life with her and not see her die. So Merlin wants to create a weapon that will definitely kill him. Using the Holy Grail, and the Flame of Prometheus, he could create a sword that would cut through his magic. When he does so, however, Vortigan arrives and attacks Nimue, causing her to die in Merlin's arms. Merlin is then almost stabbed by Vortigan, only intervened by Nimue who rips out his heart. She then explains that she drunk from the Holy Grail. When Merlin begs her to not kill Vortigan, she refuses and crushes his heart, seeking proper revenge. This turns her magic dark, and she becomes the first Dark One. Nimue takes the sword and breaks it against the Promethean flame's stand to avoid her magic and immortality being cut away. Merlin hides Excalibur in a stone while making its tip into a dagger and binding it to Nimue's soul so that she may remain under control. Merlin emotionally confronts Nimue. She isn't herself. The Darkness had taken over, making her seem entirely evil. He tries to kill her using the dagger, but is unable to. He, instead, drops it. While this is happening, he is turned into a tree and is trapped for over 500 years. During these years, his Apprentice must fulfill numerous prophecies set by Merlin, along with making sure that the Author does his job respectively. King Arthur fulfills a prophecy set by Merlin, but since the tip of Excalibur is broken, Arthur must use magical sand to bond the tip and to ensure that his kingdom is no longer broken. Henry's tear from a broken heart is what made the curse break and is what freed Merlin. Merlin then goes on multiple different quests with Emma Swan, making sure she has hope. If the Dark One does not do any dark deeds, their soul can be protected. And since she is the product of true love, and is the savior, she would be the most powerful dark one in existence. After the numerous quests and being used by Arthur, Merlin is ultimately killed by Hook to create the Dark Curse to go back to Storybrooke. After death, Merlin is in the Underworld and escapes when the portal to the living world is opened. He makes it his mission to ensure that Hades does nothing to harm the people of Storybrooke. RP SAMPLE Merlin walked inside of the open glade with a familiar smile on his face. He was happy to see that the area was alive again. There was wild horses not too far from where he stood, and a few peasants were playing in the field. Life was splendid. But it wouldn't be for long, for he saw a war coming from the south. There would need to be a protection spell put up around the area. He never wanted to use magic to harm others, but to protect. When people asked him why he didn't just "eliminate" the threats that kept him worried, he would respond with, "Violence is never necessary. There is always a benevolent option in every situation. And my magic isn't to hurt, but to help." It made him smile when he could help, because that was when he felt most alive. If he had to spend eternity alive, he might as well be a helpful immortal being. |
