Rumple wasn't terribly surprised that Henry didn't want to leave, though he was annoyed. "Not being afraid is an admirable thing, but you don't have any real combat skills, Henry! You're still learning! IF you face that thing, you could end up hurt, or a statue!" Oh Gods, his mother would murder him if he allowed that to happen. BOTH his mothers would murder him. Not to mention his father and the rest of his extended family. Of course, he would be upset with himself if he allowed Henry to get hurt, too. Everyone cared for the boy and wanted to keep him safe. Yes, sometimes they were over protective, but he felt this particular moment wasn't one of those times- the gorgons were dangerous! He had defeated one but the other was already back up and hissing at them violently.
But, as much as he wanted to protect Henry, he also knew he had made a couple of good points- like the fact that he was barely able to move. His body felt heavy and unresponsive, and he knew casting magic in such a state was going to be difficult. The magic from the Underworld creature was indeed powerful, and he had allowed himself to get bitten like a fool. He should have protected himself better, not just Henry. He would have been able to fight off the creatures with ease given his power, but now that he had magic turning him to stone, it got in the way of him using his powers as well as he could have.
All the power in the universe didn't amount to much if he couldn't move enough to use it. His arm had turned almost completely to stone, and the back of his shoulders were weighing him down with their petrified weight.
He couldn't even stand, much less fight.
He watched the creature carefully, cursing his luck. If he were back at his shop, he could find a potion to reverse the petrification effects. But there wasn't enough time now- he would have to stay where he was and watch Henry attempt to deal with the creature.
With as much effort as he could muster, the Dark One pushed himself back up to his feet, wobbling awkwardly under his new weight. Even his arm that hadn't been turned to stone hung limply at his side, the man barely able to feel it with the petrification that ran over his shoulders. The stone had cut most of the connection between his brain and his arm, rendering it almost as useless as the arm that was marble. He was just glad it seemed the venom had stopped spreading, and the stone wasn't continuing to spread any further over his body. Still, it had done more than enough.
"I... I can't cast any more spells," he said, "I can't really feel my arms.. But I can distract it. I'm weakened- it'll come after me because I'm easier. Perhaps I can give you an opportunity to get that shield in front of its face. The reflective surface will turn it to stone. But this is dangerous Henry- are you sure you want to do this?" It wasn't like they had much of a choice. They could stand there talking about it if they wanted to, but the gorgon was ready to attack and didn't seem as interested in giving them time to form a plan as they were.
