PERSEPHONE
Penelope West
PERSONALITY There is something to be said about the quiet indomitable spirit that denies even death the right to cloud judgement and darken the lightness that resides within. Even in the face of the most horrifying terrors that the world might have to offer, the goddess refuses to trade the softness that resides within for a cruelty that has gripped most of the world. Her soul is gentle and forgiving, capable of kindness that has been so lost on the others that surround her. It compels her into silence, into a quietness that most take as submission but really is the sadness of a world filled with far darker things. The gentleness should not be confused with submission or a sort of compliance that leaves her easily pushed aside or less than any other person she may find herself in. She is not delusional in her efforts to remain as she is, Persephone is well aware of the world around her. Her quietness affords her the chance to see beyond her own petty means and seek the truth behind the words and actions of others. Most might mistake her quiet and gentle for being breakable, tempted to fall to pieces at the harsh words of others. The softness that envelopes the goddess is not a softness made from glass. She is a hardy creature, prone to thick skin despite the empathy that she possess for others. Making the mistake that Persphone is not capable of being strong is a mistake that most make. By all rights, Persephone could have found herself growing bitter. Giving into a rage that defined most of her godly family, it could have lead the woman down a terrible, dark path. Everything from her birth to the deal that sealed her fate edged Persephone to the thin line that divided the truly good from the truly bad. It is the inner strength that she possess that allows Persephone to recognize the terrible things in life, and accept them as life instead of succumbing to them. A hearty soul who takes her responsibilities with a kind heart and a quiet seriousness that leaves her a welcoming imagine in ushering in souls. There is a strength in Persephone that allows her to fight against the things that threaten to pull her down. A strength that allows her to open her eyes and see the world as it is, to know the truth and not drown in the over-whelming waves. Persephone's strength exceeds the desire to grow petty or find bitterness in the hand life has dealt her. She carries nothing but love for the family she has, nothing but love for the people who she trusts. Persephone is far more willing to forgive than to torment, she knows that most would take advantage of such a thing. But what sets her apart from the darkness that has ahold of her family, is the fact that she would withstand the greatest of betrayals and still profess love to those she cares for. Patience is a virtue that Persephone has plenty of. Her serene nature cannot thrive without a heavy and healthy dose of patience. Her temper is non-existent and she finds herself more than pleasant in the face of opposition. There is no pride over the patience she can exert, nor smugness when she does not give into the anger that tempts to broil beneath the surface. There is a calmness about her, a serenity that leaves the impression of a breakable softness. It is a mistake, however, to believe that Persephone does not have a breaking point. That the woman would forever let the abuse seep over her, wash over her in the hopes that it could break through her defenses and dampen that light that burns so quietly within her. Neither, will she stand idly by and let someone take from her. Persephone is a patient, loving, serene, and gentle woman. But she is not a woman to be pushed around. She is not a woman to be scorned or a woman to be taken advantage of. Because Persephone is a goddess, and below that beautiful, wondrous patience and love she holds for the world around her is a fierce determination to protect what is hers. She will fight for her light. She will be damned before it will be extinguished. And she will never, ever, allow another being to destroy the peace that she has made with herself, with the world, and with death. HISTORY Yet another illegitimate child of Zeus, Persephone was born to the Goddess Demeter. An over-bearing and very loving mother, Demeter did everything in her power to keep pure, beautiful, young Persephone away from prying eyes and away from the cruelty of the world. It was a task that could not be done. The world was a vast, wild, and beautiful place and it called to the young goddess like nothing else ever could. The wild was a part of the goddess even if her mother yearned to keep her safe and away from prying eyes. Persephone couldn't stand her mother's over-bearing attitude and tended to sneak off to play with the wood nymphs well into adult hood. She was the epitome of nature, of the way that spring burst into life and brought forth the wild, loving spirit of the world. Perhaps it was this very nature that captured the dark god's attention in the first place. Regardless of the reasons, Persephone quickly found herself being whisked away from her woodland paradise and brought to a dark, unknown place. She had been taken by the god Hades, forced into the Underworld for whatever reasons the god might have had. Perhaps her stark difference to the god himself, or perhaps for a vastly different reason. It did not matter, as she found herself forced to face so many different, new, and terrifying things. Demeter came to take Persephone back to the world of the living as soon as she found out who had kidnapped her daughter. But it was not soon enough to keep the imprint of death from resting upon the woman. Tainted in her mother's eyes, her time spent in the Underworld caused the woman to grow. Despite Demeter coming to a deal with Hades, in which Persephone would return with Demeter for a set number of years before going back to Hades for yet another set number of years, Persephone could not quell herself of the things she had learned and found in the Underworld. Begrudgingly, she realized that Hades had opened her eyes to things she had missed easily in her youth. Demeter struggled to keep the woman close after her time in the Underworld. However, Persephone resisted every attempt of the woman to try and keep her under her wing. Persephone broadened herself, spread her wings, and grew up. No longer did she need her mother to save her from the darkness. It did not matter, considering her mother only staved off the darkness. Now, she is tasked with upholding the other-half of the deal. She is now in Storybrooke to meet once again with Hades. RP SAMPLE The town was quaint, pleasant, something she could see herself living in if she was any less of what she was. However, when it came to the gods and goddess' quaint little towns were hardly the staple of their diet. Most were far more interested in the grander things in life, such as their cushy spots on the top of Mt. Olympus. It was a simple fact that most of the god's were more interested in their own lives than the lives of mortals or anyone else. Not to say none of them possessed the ability to empathize, but in Persephone's experience she found there was a distinct lack of empathy. Regardless, she was not here to discuss the other gods, or look down upon them. She loved her entire family for what they were. Persephone was here to uphold the deal that her mother and Hades had made back in the day of her youth. There had been a distinct lacking of her involvement, despite her life hanging in the balance. She had been kidnapped by Hades, forced into the Underworld, and then didn't get a say about how she would live her life from there. Now she found herself in the town of Storybrooke to seek out Hades and begin her many years by his side. Part of her wanted to rebel against the idea, but she was duty bound to return to him. Persephone was not one to deny or turn away from duty. The woman regarded herself in the mirror, studying the expression that stared back at her. Dark hair fell in soft waves around her oval face. It made her skin looked far more tan than it really was, but Persephone was hardly a vain woman, let alone goddess. Her face was serene, lips relaxed, eyes warm as always. But there was a definite edge to her jawline, a sharpness that belied to the nervousness and discomfort that she was truly feeling. It did not matter, not truly, the woman could not find herself in a different situation even if she truly, truly wanted it. She had a duty to fulfill. Persephone inhaled deeply before running the brush through her hair one more time and setting it on the sink counter. From there she straightened out the dress she wore and moved from the small hotel room she was occupying. From there Persephone was going to make her way into the town and find Hades. He would be expecting her, she was sure. Persephone doubted that he would so easily forget a deal that he had made. |
