Everything that happens, happens by design. And there's nothing we can do about it.
Neal had the day off today, and, he had decided to make a visit to the place that his son had talked about alot. The two of them had planned to visit there together, when he'd first gotten here, but, things had gotten in the way, and, they'd never gotten the chance.
A love of ice-cream was one thing that he and Henry both had in common. Neal had spent alot of his foster time visiting ice-cream parlours, as a way to avoid going back to most of them at the start, and, also to spend some money without having to give it to the foster parents.
Although with one foster parent it had been different. One of them had actually gone with him on those kind of outings, to make it actually feel like he had a parent for real. Neal had actually liked this one. The foster parent who he knew as Ingrid.
His time with her had been the best two years he'd ever known. She had always been the closest thing he'd ever had to a mother and he couldn't have asked for a better one. But, his stupid fear of being abandoned or losing it all over again had caused him to run away from that.
Neal never even got to explain why he'd taken off, by the time he realised he should've explained. He was at an age, where he wouldn't have been recognised, and, it was too late for any of it.
Soon, Neal reached the ice-cream parlour known as Any Given Sundae, and, he gently pushed the door open, hearing the bell above the door chime. Neal looked around for an owner, but, didn't see anyone.
Reaching the counter, Neal tightened his jacket around himself since the drop in temperature in here had caught up with him. Neal leant against the counter, "Hello anyone here?" Neal called out before ringing the bell on the counter.
