Death was only the beginning. Cora had already felt exhilarated when she appeared in the Underworld. Her last words made her choke on oncoming tears as she began to fall apart. It was very rare for Cora to feel emotion. In fact, she hadn't felt emotion much of Regina's life. She had taken her heart out since the first moment she had first left Rumpelstiltskin. And it was back in her for eternity.
Well, she hoped she'd be able to remove it in this new realm. But, with no success, it seemed that her own personal hell had been forming. She'd suddenly felt emotion, but with an even greater force. That was the Mills family curse. Every person in the family succumbed to their own emotions at some point. Her own father killed himself over drinking so damn much. Regina, nor Zelena had even met her parents. Cora's past was a bit secretive. She didn't want anyone knowing her upbringing, as it was one of her weaknesses.
She loved her family. She, at first, loved working the Mill. But for a while, it was just too stressful being a peasant. Her teenage angst made a storm into her twenties, making her able to become a princess at such a young age. She never felt like she'd be able to love again, but Cora did.
A few years past, but it felt like hundreds of years in the Underworld. Time was almost...frozen. Like it was a eternal curse swallowing her up into nothing. Cora had only wanted to see her daughter again. But it would be difficult. She had only been able to get out of the Underworld for a brief moment when Regina summoned her to ask about Zelena.
It was horrible here. She didn't want Regina to have to experience that. Perhaps Cora's unfinished business would be to see Rumpelstiltskin die a horrible death. She really did hate that man...but she loved him just as much. Why did she feel such young emotions at such an old age? Was age transparent in a place where you suffered for eternity?
Well, Cora didn't really know what to do at this point. She had finally made Regina love her, but for what price? She only wanted Regina to be happy at this point. Even Zelena, if that could be possible. She wanted to give both of them their best chance, to not fall into the pit of a peasant life. To be royal and be showered with love and affection.
Love...affection...she forgot about those emotions when her heart was out. If her heart had been inside of her, perhaps things would have been different. Oh, no...they would have been different. Cora had spent what seemed like hundreds of years in the Underworld figuring that out.
Regret was the only emotion she had anymore. Well, that wasn't completely true. She felt all emotions powerfully. She even had felt happiness when she thought about Regina. Time was only just a word here.
Cora was standing inside of Regina's office. It was bleak, empty without her inside of it. She reminisced slightly about her time with her inside of it. It was almost the same, but she felt a sense of dread being here. Almost unexpectedly, Cora turned around and saw her daughter standing directly in front of her.
It shocked her. "Regina...is that really you? What are you doing here? My goodness..." Cora had built up a sentence that she longed to say to her daughter since the moment she had passed away. A sentence that she wasn't sure was appropriate to say at the current moment. A million emotions were running through her mind. Her greatest fear at this point was that Regina was stuck in the Underworld...or that she died to come here.
The sentence that she longed to say seemed to accidentally spill out of her mouth, as her emotions pent up inside of her, "I love you, my daughter."
