Things worked differently now then they had in the Enchanted Forest. For one thing she wasn't the evil Queen, not like she used to be. She'd changed, and with that change, came a prospect of having a Happy Ending like never before. The happiest moments seemed to be when she was with Henry, Robin and Roland. It was the closest she'd ever been to happy that she could remember. The Happy endings were something she had tried to strive to end, for so many years that now finally having a chance at one, she didn't think she needed to tear others down anymore. Even if she had wanted to get back to the Enchanted Forest, she couldn't. That land didn't exist anymore. None of them did. They were only shadows of what once was. As long gone as but a memory. Memories could be both cruel and lovely at the same time. Hers was full of turbulence. Life was nothing but little moments. Some good, and some not so good. In her heart of hearts, she didn't know what to think or what to feel sometimes. It didn't seem like it had been as long ago as it had been since she'd enacted the curse.
A curse which devastated an entire population, but it bothered her none. Because everything it did, led her to her own son. Adopted or not, he was hers. With all that had happened since the curse was initially broken, she didn't know what to think. With all the things she had caused, had she deserved what she caused? To never find what she had truly wanted. A life--with someone. It was hard to trust, to even fathom that someone could even want to be with her after all that she had done. After all that she had caused and yet Robin always seemed to be there. To have her best interests at heart.
The memory of their first encounter was fresh in her mind. He'd smelled like forest. Tinkerbell had said that he was the one who was her soul mate. He was a thief alright, by profession but also had stolen her heart. Just seeing the way he was with young Roland, they both had their children to look after. And they were creating something special between them. It lay in between the heartbeats.
She never thought she would be happy, not like this. Even at the prospect of losing Robin hurt. He was the first person other than Henry who had seen the good in her in a very long time. Even when she had known that he was married and that "Marian" was back in their lives, she'd tried to keep her distance. She had been a monster for so long that sometimes it was hard to think otherwise. Love changed her. And for the better. It seemed like whenever life was going good, it seemed to kick her in the teeth.
She recalled with vivid clarity the first time she spent time with Robin in her vault, in a place where she had kept the hearts she'd collected. But it wasn't just that. It was--something more than that. It was her second home. It was here, where she and Robin had had their first of very many passionate moments. Nothing of which she had regretted. Because it felt right, it felt good. But she was here, not because she wanted to relive the memory but because it was of vital importance.
Though the road was long, she was risking it all this time. She couldn't keep doing things the way she did in the past. It was true she'd manipulated, hurt and tortured many people in the past. Though she had no reason to apologize for what she'd done. The only exception had been with Belle but that was a different story for another time. She was in the vault for a reason other than the fact it was a safe place to be. This was where she worked best, and did all her magical potions. One where literally no one usually bothered her. Ever since returning to Storybrooke from the Underworld, she was worried.
Just then she heard the door to her vault open. "Robin? Is that you?" She'd called out as she had a fireball in hand. She'd heard footsteps but saw no one. What she had been doing down there was trying to figure out what Zelena's plan was, and how they could figure out their next move. They hadn't managed to kill Hades, so the God still posed a threat. And right now, it seemed that Zelena still saw "good" in the arrogant piece of work that the God was. Hades was a bringer of destruction, and he had power, something that clearly he planned to use for all the wrong reasons. Hades hadn't personally threatened her yet but it was only a matter of time. He hadn't said that he was going to specifically kill just her. Though he'd threatened everyone. As long as he was in Storybrooke he would always be a threat. After all he was a villain. The being of death as it were. Her hope was maybe one day she could talk some sense into Zelena. They were sisters after all. Question was would that small fraction of their world collide.
Were they going to have to fight against each other? She had the various books from her collection spread out in front of her. Knowing this was going to be a long hard fight. Because she wasn't about to watch as someone else died. She also knew that some people had managed to escape the Underworld. Which means both heroes from the past and the Villains too were going to have to find a place to exist in Storybrooke until all hell could be fixed. She had to admit she was a bit worried. It was bad enough she was struggling with getting through to her own sister, after all that had been done...after all that she had done. She'd forgiven her sister but there were still things that bothered her. She turned from one of the books only to hear more footsteps coming toward her. The fireball slowly faded as she closed her hand.
There he stood with love in his eyes. He was everything to her. Her second chance. She couldn't help but smile as she looked at the man. She couldn't help but walk to him. He was her future. She leaned in and kissed him once. She was happy to have him here, even if she knew he needed to be with his son. Her own son was with his other family members, so she knew he was safe. "Robin? Is everything alright? What's wrong?" Last she knew he said he was going to be in the forest, checking on Roland. And she couldn't blame him as after all their children came first before anything else. Even each other.
