Captain Hook
Killian Jones
PERSONALITY [ S T U B B O R N ] Refusal to give up and give in has always been something that has defined Killian Jones. Whilst he is not necessarily a brave man, Hook will fight for his safety and the safety of those he loves. He is unforgiving when wronged - his desperation for revenge against the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin, is proof of his desire to never give up pursuit of that which he wants. [ L O Y A L ] Despite his pirate nature, Killian is fiercely loyal to those that he loves. Many assume him to be cowardly, but if those he loves are in danger Killian will fight to free them and protect them. Most specifically, his attempts to save Emma from the dark one were many and unfortunately futile. He’s not used to having love or friends or family and so the moment people get close to his heart, and he realises he’s let them in he has to protect them with all his might. [ C O N F L I C T E D ] Killian struggles with his basic nature. The age of question of whether Hook is a hero or a villain can and will never be answered. He swings between the two like a pendulum, redeeming himself and debasing himself at equal turns. [ D A R K O N E ] The last thing Hook ever wanted was to become the Dark One. Killian would rather have died than stoop to the levels of Rumplestiltskin, but he had no choice in the matter. As the Dark One, Hook has given in until his most villainous desires and has let the dark powers consume his soul. [ S N E A K Y ] How could he be a pirate without this trait? Hook can be incredibly manipulative when he wants to be. He uses his wits to his advantage and this is what has made him such a strong captain of the Jolly Roger in the past. In this way Killian can be seen to be cowardly, and this is perhaps the trait of his he dislikes the most. He wants to be brave for Emma, but cowardice has helped him win out in the end and it’s something he can’t seem to shake. [ C O C K Y ] The last important trait for Killian is his cockiness. Charming and flirty when he wants to be (which seems to be the majority of the time), Killian certainly has a big head and he really does know it. Whilst this can be an amusing trait for some, many see Killian to be a little too big for his boots. HISTORY [ P R I O R T O F I R S T C U R S E ] As a child, Killian grew up on the high seas with his brother Liam and father Brennan with the desire to become exactly like his father. However, one night Killian awakes to the news that his brother and he have been sold into slavery aboard the ship to pay off his father’s criminal debts. The years passed with Killian eventually working his way out of servitude and becoming a lieutenant aboard a king’s ship with his brother. Sailing together, they find Neverland with orders to extract the plant ‘Dreamshade’. Upon the island of Neverland, Peter Pan greets them with sneaky tales that trick Killian and Liam. ‘Dreamshade’ proves deadly to Killian’s brother, and tricked by Pan, Killian defects from the King’s service becoming a pirate captain aboard his ship the Jolly Roger. Adventuring the seas, pillaging and plundering, Killian meets Milah, a housewife with a past he learns of and draws her out of. Word of this reaches Rumplestiltskin, who believes Killian abducted Milah. Jones agrees to return Milah to her husband, but only if Rumple can beat him in a duel - which never takes place. This comes back to bite Killian in the ass, as endowed with the powers of the Dark One years later, Rumple challenges Killian to a duel. Rumple attempts to take Killian’s heart, but Milah now in love with the captain stops him. A trade ensues, with Killian gaining a magic bean, but Milah dying at the hands of Rumplestiltskin. Killian refuses to give the bean to the Dark One and is gifted with the loss of his left hand and the name Captain Hook. On the journey to Neverland, Hook saves Baelfire from the waters and learns that this young boy is Rumple’s son. Thus Hook enacts a plan of revenge to the Dark One, by becoming close to Baelfire and telling him of Milah’s death at his father’s hands. Hook tries to become like a father to Baelfire himself, but the boy leaves him for Neverland, therefore turning Hook to the darkness - giving himself to becoming a villain. Hook later, working for Pan, meets Ursula and attempts to save her and her vocal gift from her father Poseidon, but fails to do so - losing his trustworthiness (which was long gone anyway) and squid ink which was his only chance of destroying the Dark One. In the Enchanted Forest, Hook is approached by Regina and asked to kill her mother Cora in return for the ability to kill the Dark One in a land without magic. Sneaky tricks ensue, and Hook ends up killing his father Brennan to obtain what the Evil Queen has promised to him. He is unable to kill Cora, but she protects herself and Hook from the curse through magic. [ A F T E R F I R S T C U R S E ] Working with Cora, Hook joins with Emma’s group at the beanstalk attempting to make his way to Storybrooke. Despite his lies, he eventually has to reveal himself to the heroes. He climbs with them up the beanstalk and helps to deal with the giant at the top all the while flirting with Emma Swan. His failure to obtain the compass leads to the loss of Cora’s aid, but Hook has a plan - stealing Aurora’s heart and setting her free the captain manipulates Cora into helping him once more. Eventually the two make it to Storybrooke aboard the Jolly Roger and kidnaps Archie in order to glean information about Rumple and the dagger. Hook manages to steal Baelfire’s shawl and to show Gold’s true nature to Belle. Upon doing so, Hook shoots Belle and she falls over the town line. Glad of the pain caused to Gold, Hook is then hit by a car but survives. After his return to full health, Killian steals back his hook and sails to New York with the attempt of killing Gold. Emma and Neal take Hook hostage but he is soon stolen by Tamara and Greg who return Hook to Storybrooke and attempt to use him as their own. By promising he can kill Mr Gold, they enlist Hook’s help and send him to pretend to be Regina’s ally. In this, Hook becomes bait for Maleficent and must be saved by Tamara and Greg. His safety at risk from Greg and Tamara’s plan, Hook must align himself with the heroes and without their trust he is constantly under supervision. After the death of Baelfire, Hook connects a little with Emma over their similar natures and inability to trust anyone. Having to work with Gold, Hook and the others set sail for Neverland with fear and trepidation in order to save Henry from Pan. As a survivor of Neverland, Hook is invaluable with his explanations of ‘Dreamshade’ and advice of directions, even though no one actually listens to him. As Emma works out the map. Hook becomes more and more curious about the saviour and presses her for information. Hook’s knowledge of Baelfire enables him to become closer to the heroes and they are soon searching hopefully for Henry. His interest for Emma only grows, and Charming confronts him regarding this. For saving Charmings’ life, Emma kisses the pirate, and he is heartened by this display. Finding the alive Neal, Hook alerts the others that he shared a kiss with Emma and voices his belief that perhaps he is finally getting over Milah. Neal proves to be a source of jealousy for Hook as the two compete for Emma’s affections. Hook becomes invested in winning over Emma, and he wants to do it the fair and brave way rather than the pirate way. Safely escaping Neverland, Hook reveals that he will be stepping back from his pursuit of Emma, allowing Henry’s parents to remain together if they so wish. The death of Pan and Gold enacts a curse to return everyone to the Enchanted Forest, and upon arrival Hook decides to return to the life of a pirate. He takes back the Jolly Roger from Black Beard and Ariel asserts to Killian that he can never be a hero because of his villainous nature. The arrival of a new curse leads to Hook’s travel to the Land Without Magic in search of Emma. [ S E C O N D C U R S E ] In New York, Hook attempts to remind Emma of her past with ‘True Love’s Kiss’ but it fails, and he has to continue to remind her through his repeated interruptions of her life. After she takes the potion to remember, Hook, Emma and Henry return to Storybrooke. Missing residents and memories soon alert everyone in Storybrooke to the presence of the Wicked Witch of the West. Hook soon finds his place in the quiet town and aids the heroes with their investigations. The death of Neal is upsetting even to Hook as he recalls the shared memories from his earlier years. Zelena curses Hook through trickery with the attempt of stealing Emma’s magic through his kiss. This constant pressure darkens Hook and he is has to try to protect Henry whilst not disclosing his love for the saviour. Henry survives and Emma berates Hook for trying to save her son, believing it to be her job alone. [ P R I O R T O T H I R D C U R S E ] Despite his aid, Emma is still distrustful of Hook and he is only able to protect her through the convincing of her parents. The curse that Zelena enacted upon Hook comes to fruition when Emma must perform mouth to mouth to save Hook’s life. The death of Zelena at the hands of Mr Gold activates the time spell, and soon Hook and Emma are sucked into the past in the Enchanted Forest. The two must act to ensure that all of the events of the storybook happen as they are supposed to despite constantly knocking events off of their paths. Finally saving everyone’s happy endings, Hook and Emma return to the present and kiss one another revealing their feelings for one another. The ice wall causes Hook to worry about Emma, desperate to save her from entombment in ice and he is relieved as she returns from this wall. Hook and Emma break down their internal walls of distrust and fear and the two combat their feelings together. Hook wants to be whole again and date Emma with his two hands, and as such asks Gold to return his hand to him. Warned that his true nature will return, Hook begins to act weirdly and attacks Will Scarlett. Gold removes the hand once more and Hook is then told his own darkness is coming to the forefront rather than the hand being cursed. The disappearance of Emma leads to Hook joining with her parents and Elsa to search for her and he tricks the heroes as he heads for Gold’s shop to find her. Gold has tricked Hook once more, and Killian’s heart is stolen by the Dark One with the intention of controlling him as his puppet. Hook is tasked with absorbing all of the nuns into the sorcerers hat and enacting the Dark One’s evil plans. Despite everything he does, Rumple tells Hook that his life will be over as soon as morning comes. Ingrid’s curse falls over the town and Hook is unaffected as his heart is not within his chest. He aims to protect Henry and Emma, and later at the sorcerer’s house has to pretend to Emma that nothing is wrong. Eventually Hook’s heart is returned to his chest by Emma and Rumple is ordered across the town line. Hook, through his bargaining with Ursula and attempting to return her happy ending, discovers that Gold intends to turn Emma into a Dark One and use her not being a saviour to persuade the Author to give villains their happy endings. Despite Hook’s warnings, Emma doesn’t believe that she can be changed. Once the original timeline is restored, Hook is reunited with Emma and realises her love for him as she is turned into the Dark One. The cyclone takes everyone to the Enchanted Forest, and Hook fights with Emma to try to turn her from the darkness. Distracting her from everything appears to work, and the two share moments of love in attempts to force her mind away from the appearance of the Dark One. Cut on the neck with Excalibur, Hook cannot ever hope to live yet Emma attempts to heal the wound using her dark magic. Unable to be healed, Emma tethers his life to Excalibur as a second Dark One and Hook appears surrounded by darkness and sorrow. Furious at Emma for everything she has done, Hook turns to the darkness and kills Merlin as Nimue lives inside of him. Before Rumple enacts a new curse on Storybrooke, Emma removes all of Hook’s memories. [ A F T E R T H I R D C U R S E ] Unknowingly the Dark One, Hook is returned to Storybrooke and is desperate to save Emma from what she has become. Hook dislikes what Emma has become but she still attempts to be with him. He tries to persuade himself that he loved her, as he cannot love her as the Dark One. The search for Excalibur is on as they believe that Emma is going to use it for dark purposes. During this, Zelena returns Hook’s memories and shows her his name upon the sword. Learning that he is a Dark One too, Hook believes he can finally enact his revenge upon Mr Gold. Using his darkness, he fights with Emma giving into everything that he had forgotten from his past as a pirate. Hook fulfils the Dark Ones ultimate plan, opening the underworld and releasing past Dark Ones throughout Storybrooke. He still wants revenge on Emma for her actions and wants to damn everyone she loves to the Underworld. The near death experience of Emma brings Killian out and all of the darkness is absorbed into him - death by excalibur brings back the light and Hook dies from his previous neck wound, being absorbed into the Underworld. RP SAMPLE “Love, I’ve got to hand it to you, you can work a leather jacket.” Killian grinned, proud of himself for the pun, eyebrow raising as he watched his blonde girlfriend putting on her jacket. His hook tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear as he leant into kiss her, pulling away slowly. The memory was as painful as it had been the first four times, as had the other thousand swilling around his head as the darkness consumed him. Christ, Swan, he had to hand it to her - he’d not expected that she’d make him the Dark One too. That she’d bring him down to her level. Anything would have been better than this. Death, even. Jesus, he’d gotten away from that life, being the asshole Captain Hook. He’d got rid of that, got rid of his villain side, but no, he wasn’t gonna get his damn happy ending. No, he’d done too much bad for that to happen. Tormenting him with his memories wasn’t enough for the darkness, no, apparently no. Now he was being tested with apparitions of the very one he wanted revenge on. The damn Crocodile. Now he understood how Swan had felt, the hallucinations were driving him mad. And all he could feel was the blackness absorbing his heart, his very mind being transformed. The power. The very real power racing through his veins, the voices of the other Dark Ones. Oh, so this was what it was like. Fierce, fast, heart racing, incredible power. It was all consuming, all absorbing, the darkness was controlling him. He wanted this, it was desperate and incredible, he couldn’t lose it. This was why no one could seem to give it up. And oh, he did not want to either. |
