Hades, Lord of the Dead
Hayden Noble
PERSONALITY Hades prefers to schmooze over anything else. He counts on his ability to double talk to get his way. He will endure any social situation in order to get what he wants or to win someone over to his side. He has a palpable natural charisma that helps with this. He also looks to the big picture rather than focusing on minute details in his planning. Making an omelette breaks a few eggs. That hardly counts in the grand scheme. Bad things done for a good cause are still good, in his eyes. He doesn't consider himself good or evil, on that note. He simply is and there are things to be done. He doesn't lose sight of what is important to him and to keep the chaos of the Underworld controlled. He doesn't understand the human virtues of love, loyalty, lust, or any other important "feelsy" words. Instead he understands possession, power, and politics. That is the world that he has spent more time in than anyone can truly comprehend. Despite his gift at socializing he does precious little of it. His job is full time, leaving him alone in the Underworld more often than he is anywhere else. A single soul can tip the balance and he feels the weight of that responsibility all the time. He's surprisingly lonely with only Pain and Panic to talk to, and they're idiots. Making deals is the only way he escapes the humdrum life he has. Human servants allow him to work among mortals, shaping events and influencing people. He honors his commitments, but those deals are usually weighted on his benefit. He also has sort of a short fuse when it comes to things not going well and an explosive temperament to go with it... HISTORY Zeus gave Hades the task of controlling the Underworld, an injustice for which Zeus will always have his ire. He built the Underworld from nothing, the chaos of it being tamed over eons into a well oiled machine. His naturally callus nature allowed him to be detached from the souls he collected making him singularly able to process them into eternity without allowing bias to get in his way. Because of this he does not understand the freedoms that the other Gods enjoy like leisure, love, and all of the best characteristics of humanity. He loathes them for their frivolity and he loathes the souls he collects for having more freedom in their short lives than he will ever enjoy. He sat festering in the Underworld, plotting his escape from the ties of his servitude. Maybe he went a little mad with loneliness and a thirst for enough power to escape his prison. The disaster with the Titans and Hercules left him smarting for a long time. In Meg he lost the only person he actually considered a friend, failing to recognize the truth in their arrangement. He also lost a much cherished chance at freedom to Zeus' uselessly noble offspring which led to more hatred for that family line. The Gods could not kill one of their own, but he was left even further in isolation. They tired imprisoning him for real, but found that without him the Underworld began to crumble. No one else was up to the task so they let him out of his temporary prison into the more permanent one. That's when some souls arrived that he was not expecting. Indeed, their escapes freed a few of their comrades and sent the Underworld into a downward spiral. The nature of his realm was to take in, not to release. By being released, those souls threw the Underworld into instability. He had to go to Storybrooke to collect them and bring them back and, once there, spotted Meg. Which means he is staying here for a while... He does not know most of the fairy tale characters he knows everyone of the World without Magic as well as anyone that has crossed into his realm, even if they since escaped. RP SAMPLE "Ladies, Ladies, welcome!" He moved into his tower, the one part of the Underworld that that actually overlooked the human world. He saw the sun from the windows on the far curve of the room. The Fates were toward the center of the room, near to his desk and work tables. Taking care of this madness was a full time job and he did not relish it, though he did it well. Indeed, he felt no one else could, though that was what he desperately wanted. "Ladies, how could I have been so rude as to have kept you waiting?" They were not terribly attractive creatures, but then the keepers of the past, present, and future didn't need to be lovely, they only needed to keep track of the strands of mortal lives. They were his supplier, so to speak, and he cleaned up after their work. He wasn't especially thrilled about that, either, but he could live with it if they let him now what he needed to know. "You look ravishing today, simply lovely. Can I get you something?" He gestured to Pain and Panic in the background and they brought forward some tidbits that he gathered for them. He didn't know what Fates enjoyed but he made some guesses and hoped that it would earn their favor. "Tell me, Ladies, what would I have to do to get into your good graces. I need you, desperately. If I can't get you to help me my hope is lost. How do I escape this place? Only you know." |
