Rumple knew things weren't exactly going well for him in the 'hero' department. It was so much easier making enemies and striking uneasy alliances with them than it was making friends and getting them to trust him. Hell, not even the friend part- just getting others to trust him was becoming a pain in the ass. He had already failed to get any closer to Hook and Zelena, and he was sure it was only a matter of time before one of them snapped and did something quite alarming. Hook was probably the bigger threat- he was connected to the people Rumple actually cared about. If Zelena did something, it would likely target Robin and Regina, both of whom meant very little to Rumple.
Still, he wanted to help the both of them. Maybe for his own selfish thoughts of redemption, but he wanted to. Too bad he didn't know how to go about it. Clearly talking to them directly wasn't going to work- both had met him with derision and a strong desire to kill him.
He needed other tactics. A middle man, perhaps.
So it was a good thing he had just discovered that Killian's brother, Liam, had revived from the dead with the other Underworld escapees. If anyone was going to keep Killian on the straight and narrow, it was going to be him. It was also a good thing that the Jones boys were pretty easy to figure out- he knew where to find Liam without ever having met him, really.
He moved down the docks, looking around to see where the man might be spending his time. He was pretty sure he was going to find him there, it was just a matter of when he was going to appear. With any luck, Liam would be more willing to work with him than his brother, though somehow he doubted it was going to be as simple as that.
These days, no one was willing to work with Rumplestiltskin right away.
