It had been a long, trying ordeal. Rumple had been tortured and attacked, and made to slice himself up like he was a birthday cake. Because he had been so afraid of using his magic and turning completely dark, he hadn't allowed himself to heal, either, and the wounds still hurt quite profoundly. Thankfully, Zelena had at least given him his heart back, but he found he was still hesitant to actually put it back inside his chest.
Funny, he had been waiting so long to get his heart back- thinking of what would happen without it had been torture for him. All those thoughts of becoming the man he had once been. Of becoming worse than that man. Those things had kept him from using magic, and had forced him to tell Zelena that Neal was the one who had his dagger. Now, though, he was reluctant. Why? He should have put his heart back in his chest right away. Instead, he was considering how, even though he had been so frantic to get it back, he hadn't actually been worried. He hadn't actually been feeling much of anything. And the emotions had gotten fainter and fainter as time went by.
It almost seemed like a good thing to him now. Maybe emotions were really what had been holding him back in the first place. Emotions had been why he'd been so driven to create his curse. They had actually been what had caused all the pain and suffering he had brought to the town.
Maybe they were the problem. Maybe... he didn't need his heart, and the town was better off without it.
He sighed to himself, leaning on the buy counter of his shop. Sitting on top of the glass, on a small display pillow, was his crystal- clear heart, still outside of his chest as he contemplated what was the better option. It pulsed with a bright power, and he knew it was still pure, but he didn't know if that was really what he needed at that moment. Maybe what he really needed was to be away from emotions, so he could deal with things clearly. A level head might prove better for his dark powers.
He had been silly to think that emotions was what was keeping him in check in the first place.
The man was so caught up in his thoughts, and staring at his heart, that he had forgotten that he had asked Neal over to get his dagger back. Since he hadn't been used by Zelena, he could only assume she hadn't taken it from him yet. There was still a chance to protect him. Or, really, to protect the dagger. At that point he wasn't really concerned about what happened to other people.
Probably because his heart was sitting on the counter.
