Zelena was pacing by the well, clearly distressed to anyone that might happen upon her. Thankfully, not many people came to the well in the middle of the night so, blessedly, she had the place to herself for the foreseeable future. More than once she had looked into the well, catching a vague reflection of herself in its waters. The person she saw was not someone she recognized and as she turned to lean against the stone well, she remembered her meeting with Neal only a few nights before.
She'd given him back the dagger!
She had it in her hands, the key to her revenge, and for some reason here unknown to her, or not believed, she gave it back to him! What was happening to her? Her drive used to be absolute. And the worst, the worst, was that he knew. He gave up Baelfire without much prodding, for him. She knew that though she had him in what she considered dire straits his stubborn streak had outlasted worse. She'd seen it.
"Rumplestiltskin..." she growled, her voice rolling like thunder. "I know you can hear me."
And she knew he'd come. He practically had to. Not because she wanted to make a deal, but because she needed to know why. She was strong! Determined! And now she was doing and saying things she didn't understand for reasons she didn't like to admit.
"You knew!" she accused as she felt him arrive. His presence always carried a certain heaviness to it. "You knew. I don't know how you knew but you did and you played me for a fool...again."
It wasn't really him she was mad at, but she was willing to pretend otherwise instead of facing the truth. It felt better to take it out on him, anyway. Magic crackled around her hands because, by now, he had to know that his dagger was safely with his son again after a brief absence. Or at the very least that he was not being controlled with it to destroy the town and himself along with it.
