The children entered the classroom. Some were excited, some were not. But most children enjoyed being in the presence of Miss Blanchard. She was kind, intelligent, and knew exactly how to make children happy. That was a gift of hers for as long as she could possibly remember. This year she had the mayor's child, Henry Mills.
Henry Mills was one of her favorite students. From the moment she had met him, she felt a bond growing. Mary Margaret always wanted kids, but could never find a man to share that opportunity with. Her chest often felt sore thinking about what could be a potentially happy life with a wonderful man. But her life was fun. It was a bit repetitive, but she couldn't complain otherwise.
It was unexplainable. Henry felt like the only person in her life that made a difference. He was always bringing something new and refreshing to her. It felt like she had only watched him grow. Mary Margaret enjoyed teaching him, even if his guardian, Regina Mills always had some sort of plain issue with her. She had always wondered what she had done to her.
Today the children were deciphering the meaning of some old stories. The themes, and what made the story impactful. Miss Blanchard always found stories to be exciting and a way to escape her boring life. But she couldn't complain, she was happy. Mary Margaret allowed the children to work in groups, but she was almost done briefly overlooking the children.
She walked over to the window and opened it slightly for some breeze. This is something she did every single day. Some birds even flew in from the bird feeder. Mayor Mills would call this action unsanitary, but she really enjoyed allowing the children to see the beauty and kindness of wild life. There was nothing wrong with a bit of love and compassion.
"So, you have been able to look over the stories with your classmates. I will now discuss a certain fairytale that is a favorite of mine..." Miss Blanchard turned to the class, smiling widely. "Snow White by Brothers Grimm. A classic and a favorite for most people. Snow White, she is someone who showed love and compassion for everyone. Even the Evil Queen, who made her retreat into the woods and run far away from her. She is an example that everyone has the capabilities of being kind and devoted, even if times may seem rough."
Mary Margaret smiled, taking a book that she had from her desk, labeled Once Upon a Time. The book was old, and she wasn't sure where it came from. But it was unlike any other book that the students had on their desks. As she held it up to the class, she began to speak, "This is a different book. The stories in here are much different, but also very intriguing-" As Miss Blanchard happily talked about the book, the bell that ended class rung and all of the students ran out of the classroom, "Oh! Don't forget your homework on classic folk literature!" Mary Margaret sighed, but realized that Henry Mills stayed behind.
"Hello, Henry. You may go now, the bell has rung. It was so nice being able to see you read aloud to the class today. You're very wonderful!"
