It was night. Darla was unsure of why the Lost Boys and the terrible people of Neverland seemed more active at night. Did they not think that there were mermaids on guard at night? Or that the fish suddenly were easier to catch at night? Both of those accusations were false. Some fish chose to be nocturnal. Some fish like Darla.
As Darla swam around the Neversea, she kept watch. Usually the leader would be resting for an eventful next day, but Darla refused to go off duty tonight. It was something that kept her from doing so. Plus, the Lost Boys were bound to mess around with pirates tonight. Something she'd love to see. But the Lost Boys weren't all too friendly to the mermaids either.
There was a certain...prejudice...towards mermaids in Neverland. Well, they weren't entirely wrong. But Darla chose to enforce those stereotypes through killing as many land dwellers as she possibly could. Young mermaids were sleeping. It was not time to sail the sea, but to sleep. It was irritating to Darla that there was so much chaos at night. Neverland never seemed to sleep.
With her echolocation, Darla picked up that there was a person not too far from where she was. Whether it was a Lost Boy or a pirate, they needed to stay far away from her pod. But she saw the wave take the person further into the water. Whether they intended to get far in the water was beyond Darla.
She quickly swam to the person and carried them to the deepest depths of he ocean, pulling whoever it was under water and forcing them to breathe the cold water. Darla gave the person a second to speak, and to hear what she had to say to them, "I am quite tired of having to tell you stupid land-dwellers to stay away at night time. You can grab water or food on Neverland. The next time I see you out here, you are dead."
Darla began to slowly swim away from the person, leaving them to either swim back on their own or to drown. She didn't care to show mercy, for that time had been long past. There were too many land dwellers near her home.
