Rumple felt like he was stepping into the lion's den as he walked towards his house. While he hadn't completely shut Belle out of his life the past few weeks, he had certainly avoided her. At first, it had been because he was worried about hurting her. With his heart in Zelena's possession, and his Dark One powers with now emotions to hold them back, he had been very concerned that he might accidentally do something to her that he would later regret. But his heart had been returned, and the darkness calmed once more. Still... he had only checked in fleeting from time to time, mostly sticking to the excuse that he had been busy trying to figure out a way to solve the problem with the Underworld.
However, he knew that wasn't entirely the truth. While he was looking for some means to save Storybrooke from the problem he may have created when escaping the Underworld, there was something else. Something else he was afraid to tell his beloved wife.
The deal he had made with Hades.
She would either be furious, or heartbroken, and either way he was reluctant to bring the emotions down upon her. It had been the main cause behind his not being around, as though simply hiding away could really make the problem disappear. He was an idiot- he had always been an idiot when it came to doing the right thing. But he was scared. After telling her about the darkness he had taken back, it was understandable that she had been angry with him. He had thought he was going to lose her at that time. Somehow, though, he had managed to keep her at his side, though he knew he didn't deserve her devotion to him.
His love for her made him selfish.
He sighed to himself as he limped his way up the steps of his pink home, drawing himself closer to the door. He paused in front of it, his cane tapping against the aged wooden planks beneath him. Something else he hadn't had a chance to tell her about, though his foot was the least of his concerns at that moment. It wasn't like she hadn't seen him with a limp before- this was probably the most normal thing he was going to have to talk to her about.
Drawing in a deep breath , he pulled a key from his pocket, using it to unlock the door and enter. DeSoto was still guarding the shop, where he usually lived, so he wasn't there to greet his master at the door. Had he even told Belle about the damn dog? Was there ANYTHING he had told her recently?
"Belle?" He asked carefully, though he was still unsure if he wanted her to answer him or not.
Belle French
