Rumple frustrated Snow. He had lied many times, did many things. He had plenty of opportunities for redemption, but walked around them as they probably seemed too difficult for him. Would he be able to change his ways for the child that he and Belle were having?
How would Rumpelstiltskin be able to use the dark magic to become light? It was almost contradicting. It was almost as if he was addicted to using the evil magic to hindrance his attempts at redemption. Nothing good would come out of the complete darkness that was inside of him. It would spread further to his heart every passing day. If Snow had to help protect Belle's child, she would impulsively do so with a passion.
"Belle should be the only magic in your life at this point. You're like an alcoholic. You think that the magic will help you, but it only depresses you further. Some people can control alcohol, others can't. You can't control your magic addiction and it is making you do terrible things. Some drunks do things they regret. Your magic makes you a person that you don't even recognize. You need to first realize that you have an issue with the actual problem. Because that is the first step in redemption. Eliminating that dark magic would lift the veil of darkness that is on your life."
It was true. Rumpelstiltskin was a skilled magic user. He knew every spell there possibly was. But alcoholics, they knew every brand of whisky and rum. They knew exactly where to obtain and how to create that drunken feeling. Rumpelstiltskin was talented in many other ways. He wasn't just a coward. He had potential.
"And, please do not try to lie to me, Rumple. Emma told me of how she had to blackmail you in order for you to come with us. Selfishness will not make you a good father."
